Presenter Bio

Elaine Latimer-Tandy is a Licensed Masters Level Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Member of the ACA and a Georgia Certified Anger Management Specialist. She has over fifteen years’ experience in the mental health field working in residential care, juvenile justice counseling and outpatient therapy.   Significant work with clients struggling with grief and loss issues, mood & adjustment disorders, PTSD and co-occurring disorders.   Currently has a private practice on St. Simons Island, GA., facilitating group, individual and family therapy.


Description:

In this workshop you will gain clarification in defining and identifying the types of trauma and grief, the symptoms and implications related to grief and trauma.  Understanding the steps to take in starting the process of conceptualizing the client’s grief and trauma experience at the beginning of treatment and throughout the treatment process. 

Integrating treatment with an understanding of the therapists and clients cultural beliefs and historical backgrounds and the importance of cultural competency.   Discuss less talked about forms of trauma and loss such as  (Medical trauma, Intergenerational/Historical Trauma, Community violence & Trauma ) Loss of privilege and types of privilege (Wealth, Social,  Sexual Orientation, Housing, loss associated with addictions,  pets).    Identify when grief and trauma are a problem/ Discuss Perceptions and Misperceptions about managing grief & trauma.

Review Evidenced Based Treatment approaches and various models related to the treatment of trauma and grief.
